Mama Achieng learned her rows from her mother, who learned them from hers. Thirty-four seasons on the same three acres above Nyakach, close enough to the lake that the morning arrives as mist rather than light.
She keeps two calendars: the one on the wall, and the one in her hands. The second is the one she trusts. She will not pick maize the day before it is ready, no matter who is asking.
Her sons fish at Dunga. Between the field and the water, most of what her family eats has never seen a lorry.

What customers say
“Delivered before eight, husks still cool. Boiled two and roasted the rest. My daughter asked if we had travelled to shagz overnight.”
“Sold out by Thursday twice now. When it arrives it is genuinely better than anything at the supermarket.”
“Uneven shells, small eggs, yolks the colour of a sunset. Exactly what was described.”
