What a fair price actually looks like

The farmer is paid at the farm gate, on delivery, at a price agreed before planting. That is the largest single share and it is paid whether or not we sell the bag. Then collection, sorting, crating and the night transit to the city. Then the last mile, which in Nairobi is the most expensive kilometre of the whole journey.

What is not in there is a broker. In most Kenyan supply chains, produce changes hands three or four times between the field and the plate, and each hand takes a margin the farmer never sees. Removing those hands is not a moral achievement. It is just arithmetic, and it is why we can pay more and still charge less than you might expect.
